Dear Ner Tamid Member or Friend,

I have been a member of Clergy United for Economic Justice since my arrival in SF eight years ago, and I heartily support the work of this organization.  Rev. Israel Alvaran is a unique individual who chose working on behalf of underpaid workers as his religious mission, and we have become close friends.  The Progressive Jewish Alliance as well as many rabbis in SF have also been active in these efforts.

And so I ask your support by merely clicking on the petition and "signing" it electronically.  If you have any questions or want details of the specific hotels who haven't agreed to negotiate with the workers, or would like to become more involved in supporting this underclass in our community, feel free to email Rev Alvaran directly.  His email is above and below.

I also see this as a great opportunity for Ner Tamid and others to get involved in a needed social action effort as well, particularly when we're reading of the suffering enslavement of our ancestors in Mitzrayim, with the Torah portion this week of Bo & their freedom in next week's parasha, Beshalah!  So I'm am sending this to our entire congregation's email list as well.  I hope you forward it to people you know who care about the underprivileged, such as chambermaids and kitchen workers, who deserve a living wage and at least some of the benefits given to other employees of the same hotels.  Just because they are "invisible" doesn't mean they shouldn't count!

Shalom,
